Pregnant for the first time, I’ve started and stopped SO many pregnancy/parenting books that either lean too hard in one direction, provide no research or recommendations, or are just plain fluff。 Chidi provides unbiased information and presents it in a simplistic way that anyone can learn from。 If asked to recommend one book to a first-time expecting parent, this would be it。

I loved this book so much, I returned my library copy and ordered one from Bookshop。 As I prepare to welcome my first child, this gentle, compassionate, non-judgmental read needs a permanent home on my bookshelf (and is definitely coming with me to the hospital)。

The first few chapters on pregnancy didn't give me any new information, but the chapters on birth, the post-partum period and early motherhood (taking care of yourself as well as the baby) were excellent and among the best information I've read so far。 The book also contains recipes, journaling exercises, and really amazing lists & overviews of information that I find myself refering back to on a regular basis。 One big eye opener was the table on page 236, where she compares physical pain in lab The first few chapters on pregnancy didn't give me any new information, but the chapters on birth, the post-partum period and early motherhood (taking care of yourself as well as the baby) were excellent and among the best information I've read so far。 The book also contains recipes, journaling exercises, and really amazing lists & overviews of information that I find myself refering back to on a regular basis。 One big eye opener was the table on page 236, where she compares physical pain in labor (which is expected, purposeful, intermittent and finite) to physical pain in everyday life (which is unexpected, purposeless, continuous, and with an unclear end point)。 There's also useful checklists as well as tips for the birth partner。 All in all I think this is a very complete and well researched (albeit more alternative-leaning) resource for first time mothers that doesn't just limit itself to the pregnancy itself, but also includes really important information about taking care of a newborn。 Highly recommend! 。。。more

This is an incredibly compassionate and comprehensive guide to pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood! Chidi is a doula, and it really shows in her style of writing - super gentle and kind, and informational, but so easily digestible。 I read this for my doula certification but I absolutely would revisit when I become pregnant in the future, and I definitely recommend it!

Extremely practical & straight to the point!

This is the best pregnancy book I have read yet。 I will be referring to it often! I recommend this to all moms-to-be。 It’s straightforward, informative, and doesn’t push any agendas or choices。 Erica simply explains the whole package in very organized, concise, yet comprehensive layman’s terms, leaving the reader feeling empowered, educated and motivated!

I will be gifting this to every pregnant friend I ever have。

Well written book full of practical advice from conception to newborn。 Cohen carries a tone of support and non judgement throughout the book, and I love that she’s able to be straightforward while also sounding reassuring。

I don't know how else to put it: This book felt like a hug。 Compared to other pregnancy/labor books, which can feel medical or impersonal, Cohen has created a safe space with her words。 She's empowering, educational, and non-judgmental。 I especially enjoyed the sections on labor and delivery。 While she does talk a little bit about essential oils, the rest of the book seems pretty grounded in evidence and reality。 I'll be suggesting this book to any newly pregnant people I know。 I don't know how else to put it: This book felt like a hug。 Compared to other pregnancy/labor books, which can feel medical or impersonal, Cohen has created a safe space with her words。 She's empowering, educational, and non-judgmental。 I especially enjoyed the sections on labor and delivery。 While she does talk a little bit about essential oils, the rest of the book seems pretty grounded in evidence and reality。 I'll be suggesting this book to any newly pregnant people I know。 。。。more

About to go back and start this again, pulling out the bits that are useful。 You lose two stars for taking homeopathy seriously, I nearly threw the book away — if you think that is legitimate I call your judgement seriously into question。 The writing exercises are not my jam so that’s a big part of the book that’s not super helpful to me。Will definitely try the recipes though, and the pragmatic way this is written makes understanding somewhat out there concepts much easier。

Essential for pregnancy!

This book was like a warm hug of information, reassurance, and inspiration for my entire pregnancy and postpartum。 I didn’t time it but I got to the postpartum section when we brought our baby home so I was reading what I needed as I was experiencing it。 Nuture was so instrumental in my experience, I recommend it like I’m paid to。

Decent desk reference

This was a lot of good information for both pregnancy and postpartum。 I personally thought the postpartum was more useful but it could be I read more in-depth books already on pregnancy。 While there are not judgements about methods (thank goodness) there is an emphasis on organic goods which may be out of price ranges。 However, they are not overly hawked。

A must read book/ workbook for new parents。 The best pregnancy and motherhood book I’ve read to help us prepare。 Highly recommend to any new or expecting parent。

First of all, the way that this book was published and designed is absolutely stunning and easy to get in to。 The shape of the book is great。 I really like the structure of the book as well, with the breakdown of different trimesters at the beginning。 Some people have mentioned they don't love the journaling aspect, and I did not use it, but I thought that it would be helpful if that was something I wanted to do。 I also really like that there are recipes for each trimester with specific focuses First of all, the way that this book was published and designed is absolutely stunning and easy to get in to。 The shape of the book is great。 I really like the structure of the book as well, with the breakdown of different trimesters at the beginning。 Some people have mentioned they don't love the journaling aspect, and I did not use it, but I thought that it would be helpful if that was something I wanted to do。 I also really like that there are recipes for each trimester with specific focuses for that trimester。 Very helpful。 Chidi's suggestions for everything birth related were very informative, and really what I was looking for as I look towards the end of my third trimester。 Would recommend。 。。。more

Information on pregnancy didn't seem super useful (oh really, I should eat healthy? WHO KNEW, if only I didn't feel nauseous always)。 She also recommends homeopathy which made me take most of her suggests of making every product in your house organic with a grain of salt。 I found stuff on birth, what to expect afterwards much more practical/interesting -- at least from this point not having gone through it。 Information on pregnancy didn't seem super useful (oh really, I should eat healthy? I don't know。 I try, but have a lot of trouble with these sorts of books。 This one came highly recommended, and for good reason。 There is legitimately a lot of useful, gentle, sensible advice here, and some good prompts for helping moms-to-be think through their needs, anxieties, and so on in the pregnancy and newborn phase。 But then I read something matter-of-fact like, "Take 800mg of ibuprofen thirty minutes before you get busy。 It can help minimize the pain from inflammation" in the section a I don't know。 I try, but have a lot of trouble with these sorts of books。 This one came highly recommended, and for good reason。 There is legitimately a lot of useful, gentle, sensible advice here, and some good prompts for helping moms-to-be think through their needs, anxieties, and so on in the pregnancy and newborn phase。 But then I read something matter-of-fact like, "Take 800mg of ibuprofen thirty minutes before you get busy。 It can help minimize the pain from inflammation" in the section about post-partum sex and think, wait a second, what? I think this genre is just a little weird and will always make me uncomfortable (I mean, should I be reading LGBTQ pregnancy books instead or something? maybe?) but I guess these books are still better than the books that existed 20 or 30 years ago and can be a helpful resource if you let them be (which I really should)。 。。。more

I LOVE how this book is organized, and it's now my go-to recommendation for my clients。 The information covers a wide range of topics, and I think most people will find something that resonates with them in here。The only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me is that I didn't find the language very inclusive of those who don't identify as women and/or those who are not heterosexual。 I know it's difficult to write a pregnancy books with all these things in mind, but I know some other books that at I LOVE how this book is organized, and it's now my go-to recommendation for my clients。 The information covers a wide range of topics, and I think most people will find something that resonates with them in here。The only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me is that I didn't find the language very inclusive of those who don't identify as women and/or those who are not heterosexual。 I know it's difficult to write a pregnancy books with all these things in mind, but I know some other books that at least mention this in the beginning。 I also found some of the language to be a bit too egoistic; for example, the author would say "I want you to。。。" rather than "Here is a suggestion"。 。。。more

Honestly the most valuable book on motherhood I read。 If you buy one, this is it。 Loved her voice, the expectations and best practices but also the other bits that were unexpected from recipes to shopping lists to journaling prompts。 This book has everything you need and loved her vibe。

An affirming book that gave me more confidence in handling pregnancy, birth, and a new tiny human。 Some advice I did take with a grain of salt。 Overall a good read for those who need a confidence boost as they experience pregnancy and motherhood。

Meh。 Giving it three stars because of how helpful I found the labor and newborn info to be—the pregnancy phase felt really full of mindfulness exercises and recipes。
